Carmen Design Guide – An Interactive Resource Manual

A Guide to Carmen Course Design

As we have mentioned previously, Carmen will play a key role in the development of online courses at Ohio State, providing a space and structure for the pace at which learning will happen. In order to make this online classroom functional and as free of frustrations as possible so that students can focus their efforts on learning, it is important to understand the basic functionalities of the LMS and how to utilize them to their best effect.

The following interactive book highlights the primary features of Carmen, each of which is critical to establish a positive online learning experience for students. If you have extensive experience working with Carmen and are familiar with features such as changing and customizing a course homepage, utilizing pages to present and contextualize content, and creating and working with student groups and group assignments, you may want to skip ahead to the later chapters of the interactive book that dive a bit deeper into creating course transparency and usability via features such as Modules and Rubrics. If, on the other hand, you are relatively new to Carmen, you may find it beneficial to explore and skim elements of each chapter.

Within each chapter of the interactive book you will find a number of step-by-step guides, interactive tutorials, tips, and best practices to keep in mind when working with each Carmen feature. Please use this resource as makes most sense for you.
